Dear Family,
June was a fantastic month because we got to spend time with so many of you! I guess it all started with sitting in the Salt Lake Temple for Clark and Ali's sealing. I always learn so much from the officiator. Clark and Ali had that look of great hope and expectation for the future that is universal. It makes for some great self reflection. Thanks for a great day - Davis'
Our family celebrated the birthdays of Amy (30!!!), Travis, Matt and myself all in the same week. Curt and I went "camping" up Logan canyon for my birthday. We made a specialty pizza in the dutch oven while Curt painted and I read a little. We spread our foam mats in the back of the van and when it got dark we watched a movie snuggled down in our sleeping bags. In the morning we cooked a simple dutch oven breakfast, took a little hike and headed back for a niece's baby shower.
The next great adventure was driving to Washington with Carole, Jean, Ruth, Julie, Chris, and Dave. Julie offered wear and tear on her van so we were able to cancel a car reservation. (yeah $!) Driving ten hours was long enough to get stiff sitting but not long enough for conversation. It surprised me that we did very little singing except when we stopped to sing Happy Birthday to Spencer (30!!!) at the dealership he works at. It took us our first 5 hour drive to think up new words to the Copacabana tune and another one to "Together Tomorrow"(yes, he got TWO songs), pick up balloons and cupcakes. When we arrived, Dave got permission to get on their PA system and said something like "its a great day to buy a car at the Stampede ___ dealership, its also a great day to celebrate one of our own. I want to take you back to June 3, 1984...David Spencer Gardner could you please join us on the show room floor..." The rest of us were smushed in a small car...at least it seemed small for those 15 minutes we had to wait for him to get off the phone with a customer...and then burst out of the car and began singing. It sounded like a great idea when we were rehearsing on our drive but while we were waiting more and more employees were coming out of their offices to see the great show. I guess it wasn't too bad and it was SO NICE to connect with Spencer and wish him a great birthday.
Robert and Grandma Barrus joined the troupe the next morning and we were complete. The next fabulous part was getting to see Ann and Lee sealed in the temple. Ann looked beautiful and very happy with her decision. She had everything organized so well. We enjoyed meeting so many of their ward friends and other important people in their lives. We "soaked" up being around Connie and Tammy and their families. They have darling, darling and well behaved kids! We were able to help set up for the reception and then treated to a lovely luncheon. With a little coaxing Ann accompanied Lee in a few hymns and then Carole played while Ann and Lee sang a duet. Next we made a quick visit to Lee's home to see Ann's new home. It was lovely. We were all so very happy for her. With engineering skills of Rob and Dave we were able to squeeze in a cedar chest that Ann wanted Sherry to have and then we were off to the reception. We relaxed and enjoyed visiting until the end of the reception. Then we sent them off in a flurry of bubbles. Robert picked up our blowing slack with his motorized bubble maker. Then before you knew it Robert was gone to the airport and we were back in the car. I am so grateful that we were able to be there.
The only other thing we've done since being back was go to girl's camp for 24 hrs. Curt taught a plein air oil painting class to the girls, which they LOVED!. We spent the night (sleeping in the van) as chaperons. Girl's camp always has such a good feel to it.
We've got plenty of adventures coming up this month with Amy and kids spending 4-5 weeks and holidays. We love each and every single one of you.
Love,
Uncle Curt and Aunt Susan
