Hello!
As my mom added to my last letter, this past month has been interesting. Dan was hit driver's side in an accident that totaled our car and had him sent to the hospital. He ended up with severely bruised muscles in the driver-side leg, cuts and scrapes, but no major damage (thank goodness). The accident ended up being with another couple in our ward, and the wife's wrist and ankle were broken. The Bishop asked all of us not to speak to each other until the insurance had decided who was at fault, so it has been a bit awkward at church.
That following week Dan began to get severe pains in his side. He had had a kidney stone almost two years prior, so he was pretty sure he was passing another. When we got him to the clinic on base, they decided that he had already passed the stone and sent us home. The next Sunday he felt more pain in his side. I quickly got him to the ER where they loaded him up with morphine and took a CT scan.Turns out that he had not passed the stone quite yet. We ended up staying for almost 8 hours before they cleared him to leave. On the way out Dan began throwing up violently. They had him stay a little longer, but he still threw up the entire way home (poor guy). When we finally got home, he was able to fall asleep. Thankfully, he passed the stone the next day.
As a result of both the car crash and his kidney stone Dan had been missing missileer training, and was quickly falling behind in his schoolwork which was stressing him out. His commanding officer surprised us both and gave him an entire month of medical leave to heal. This was awesome, because he could barely walk on his bruised leg. He still has two weeks left of medical leave and his limp is almost completely gone! He has started some light working out and is doing great!
Since our car ended up being a total loss, and Dan had already passed his stone, I had the opportunity to fly out to Utah for a short visit with family and to buy a car. Dan really wanted to come with me, but he was not cleared to leave the base. It was so nice to see family again and I had a ton of fun just hanging out. I ended up buying a 2002 PT Cruiser from Alex. It sounds like a semi-truck while driving, but it is an awesome little car. Dan and I were both surprised at how much we like it.
When it came time to drive home, Marie graciously agreed to help me drive the car back to California. We drove straight to Los Angeles, got a hotel, and got to play around the next day before her flight back to Utah. I had tons of fun! We went to the La Brea Tar Pit Museum, which was smaller than we thought, but still pretty cool. We also went to Korea town for lunch, and then headed to the beach. We collected shells and enjoyed the view until sunset! Very romantic ;). We didn't want to stay out in the city after dark, so we drove to our hotel and watched Say Yes to the Dress before falling asleep. The next morning I dropped Marie off at the airport and drove home.
And that pretty much sums up this past month for us! I hope you are all doing well!
Love,
April and Dan Crunkleton
